Pitch update from David

Port Vale match set to go ahead

The pitch at the Cherry Red Records Stadium pitch is now described as being “perfectly playable” by AFC Wimbledon matchday groundsman David McKnight.

With the surface having been completely cleared of snow thanks to tireless work from volunteers and covers now applied to the whole pitch, AFC Wimbledon are optimistic that tomorrow night’s Port Vale match will go ahead.

Speaking to Dons Player, David McKnight, said: “It has been an absolutely superb effort from all the volunteers with over 60 supporters helping us out. The volunteers at this club always surprise us and we managed to get everything done quicker than what we thought.

“The pitch is perfectly playable, it will take a stud, and it is fine at the moment. All the pitch is now covered and we will take the covers off tomorrow. We will just keep an eye on the pitch as we go along tomorrow to make sure everything is alright for the players to do their pre-match warm-ups. All the volunteers have put the effort in to make sure there is no fixture backlog, they want to see a game and for us to get out of the position that we are in.”

AFC Wimbledon wishes to express its appreciation for all the hard work put in by volunteers.

We do still need volunteers to help take the covers off the pitch tomorrow from 1.00 pm onwards. Anyone who can give up their spare time should contact us by e-mail. Click on  Volunteer help.
