Build-up to next season

20 July 2014

A look ahead to the big kick-off

It promises to be another very competitive League 2 season and we’re building up to the big kick-off by featuring all of Wimbledon’s opponents in 2014/15.

The Football League is running a “Wall of Colour” campaign to promote the opening day of next season on Saturday, 9 August.

As part of this, AFC Wimbledon will be encouraging fans to wear their scarves, shirts, rosettes, hats, and anything else in blue and yellow to help the Dons to victory against Shrewsbury. We are also aiming to run an event on the opening day of the season.

The fourth club to feature in our countdown is York City as we work through Wimbledon’s fixture list in reverse order.

Manager Nigel Worthington is edging closer to assembling his own squad after taking over at York City near the end of 2012/13 season. The Northern Irishman has certainly earned the right to be trusted to complete such a restructuring job after taking the Minstermen into the League 2 play-offs last season. York were in freefall when Worthington took over in March, 2013, after a bright start following promotion to the Football League. However, he steadied the ship to ensure there was no immediate relegation back to the Conference and in 2013/14 he engineered a superb second half to the season that took York into the play-offs. Having now overhauled his squad and brought in signings such as Jake Hyde (pictured) from Barnet and Anthony Straker from Southend, York are expected to mount another promotion challenge.
