Buy blue and yellow earphones for great cause

John Scales says the overwhelming response from AFC Wimbledon supporters to our War Child campaign hasn't surprised him – and he is urging fans to keep getting behind a “phenomenal” effort.

The former Dons defender, who was part of Wimbledon’s FA Cup winning squad in 1988, still lives locally and he is full of admiration for AFC Wimbledon’s rise since its rebirth.

With 397 earphones sold at the current time of writing in support of our campaign for War Child and the AFC Wimbledon Foundation, John has pledged his support and he says it is a great idea.

“It is a great partnership with two causes that are close to my heart," said Scales. "I loved playing for a proper community club at Wimbledon and the same values still remain today with AFC Wimbledon. The fans at Wimbledon are so passionate about their club. It does not surprise me that they are getting behind the War Child cause.

“The way that War Child is stepping up to help children in countries less fortunate than us is phenomenal. It is great that we are supporting their efforts to improve the lives of kids in these countries.

“I have not played for Wimbledon for over 20 years and it is a privilege to be associated with the club and to support this cause. I know the fans incredibly well and I love coming back. The club is structured in the right way as it is run by its fans and supporters are not alienated like they are at some other clubs.”

War Child provide life-changing support to the most vulnerable children whose families, communities and schools have been torn apart by war.

The campaign asks supporters to pre-order a high-spec pair of earphones for £20 that are designed in the AFC Wimbledon colours with a War Child mic.

AFC Wimbledon will be sharing the profits of each pre-order 50/50 between the AFC Wimbledon Foundation and War Child.
