Sean hails new signings

Winger delighted with arrivals since he joined

Sean Rigg has been very impressed by Neal Ardley’s signings since joining Wimbledon in May – and he believes the Dons are in great shape to mount a challenge next season.

The 25-year-old (pictured) was the first signing made by Neal Ardley in a busy summer of recruitment at AFC Wimbledon and Sean has already shown plenty of promise, including netting a goal at Woking on Saturday.

Speaking to Rob Cornell during an interview for Dons Player after a 3-1 victory at Kingfield, Sean said: “The manager has made quite a few signings and I think we’re starting to knit together. We’re beginning to understand each other a bit more and what’s required. The manager has brought some great players in so hopefully we can put it together and have a great start to the season.

“Our first goal (at Woking) was a good counter-attack. George Francomb got in a great position and put over a good ball for Matt Tubbs. We need to be as clinical as we possibly can. You don’t see a lot of that in League 2, but that is how teams will get to the top of the table by taking their chances.”

AFC Wimbledon’s first-team squad are currently out in La Manga, Spain, for a three-day training camp and Sean added that he feels particularly fit going into 2014/15 after his last season with Oxford was hindered by injuries.

“The management team have eased us in from the beginning and upped the minutes with every game,” added Rigg. “It’s working well and I’m feeling very fit. There’s nothing that compares to match fitness in terms of getting sharpness and I’ve got plenty of minutes under my belt. Our work ethic was brilliant against Woking because they kept the ball well at times in the game. We worked hard to maintain our shape and broke well when we had the chance.

“Against Chelsea it was mostly defensive work for us, but we had to defend and attack well against Woking. It was hard work, but I think our performance showed that we’re getting there. We are going to be training hard in Spain and it will also be good for team bonding to get away with the lads.”

The full interview with Sean Rigg is now on Dons Player.
