Goalkeeper in optimistic mood about the future
James Shea believes it has been a good 2014/15 season for AFC Wimbledon and that the emergence of promising young talents offers plenty of hope for future progress.
The 23-year-old’s debut campaign at League 2 level has been a hugely successful one from a personal perspective and Shea has put a spell out through injury behind him with two clean sheets in the last three games.
Speaking to Dons Player, Shea said: “I think it has been a good season. We did well in the FA Cup and beat Milton Keynes for the first time. It has gone well in the league, but we have given away silly points at times. Overall, we will be satisfied with the season.
“Almost everyone on the bench on Saturday was a home grown player and that was great to see. It was good that Tom Beere, Ben Harrison and David Fitzpatrick all came on as substitutes. Tom has been with us all season really and he is a good player. It is great that all these players are now coming through and they will have a big part to play next season.”
Shea felt the Dons deserved all three points against Wycombe on Saturday and he is delighted to be back between the sticks for Wimbledon once again after recovering from a broken ankle.
“We had to get ourselves going again after Plymouth and I thought we played really well,” added Shea. “We were unlucky not to get the winner and we should have had a penalty. From a personal perspective, it could not have gone better as we have managed to keep two clean sheets out of three since I returned to the team.
“I missed it a lot when I was watching all the boys playing. Sitting in the stands watching was horrible, especially when ‘Bayzo’ was out with the lads going through things. I am over the moon to be back. Even though there are only two games left, I am buzzing to be back out there.
“Before I got injured Deji Oshilaja and Jake Goodman were playing in front of me at the back and I felt comfortable with that. It is pretty much the same now and whoever plays in front of me I feel comfortable with.”
