Left-back says Dons have set the standard to follow

Jack Smith says that the Dons must produce last night’s second-half display on a regular basis to be successful this season.

Though the left-back (pictured above) scored his second Wimbledon goal in great style against York City, he admitted to disappointment with his own first-half performance.

However, it was a different story after half-time and Smith told Dons Player that Wimbledon have now set a standard to follow in league and cup.

Speaking to Rob Cornell, Smith said: “The first-half was poor from us and personally I thought it was one of my worst performances. I felt like I could not get going properly, but we had a bit of a rollicking at half-time. The second-half was a bit more about what we want to be about and it was pleasing to turn around the game and win.

“We were not at the races for the Wycombe and Northampton matches and the first-half tonight, but we showed what we can do in the second-half. Now we want to give Wycombe a better game in the next round. We want to win every game. If we can win the next two or three matches then we will be right up there around the play-off positions in the league. That’s what we will be aiming to do.”

Smith felt it was only a matter of time before Matt Tubbs and Bayo Akinfenwa – the most prolific partnership in League 2 – hit top form again.

“Matt’s finishing is unbelievable and we see that every day in training,” Smith added. “I don’t think we had been giving him the service and once he gets chances like tonight then he bangs them in. I’m sure he will get more goals for us now.

“Bayo was back to his normal self too. He won 90 per cent of his headers and also set-up two goals. It was a great performance from Bayo.”

The interview with Jack Smith featured on Dons Player this afternoon.
