The exhibitions were well attended with people having an opportunity to talk to club officials about the plans, along with representatives of the planning and transport team for the project.

Father-and-son Dick and Adam Beal are pictured above (photograph by Zoe Linkson) at one of the exhibitions.

Dick (right), who is 69 years of age, said: “My father used to work at the stadium on the Tote and I used to have a market stall at the site so it would be great to go back there to watch the Dons. We live in Southampton now and Adam works in a pub that’s always full of Saints fans, but he’s managed to get a Womble behind the bar!”

Adam said: “It would complete the story if we could get back to Plough Lane. It’s not quite a hard-sell to get fans to attend matches in Kingston, but it would be so much easier to attract more fans if we were back at Plough Lane.”

Graham Timms said: "I'm really excited by the plans and it's great to see the club trying to get back to its roots. The club has achieved so much by rising from the Combined Counties League to the Football League, but the journey is not quite complete because we're outside Merton. It would mean everything to get back there."
