Club submits updated stadium ambitions

AFC Wimbledon aims to keep supporters informed about our plans for a new stadium at Plough Lane and Chief Executive Erik Samuelson provides an update below on a possible return to Merton.

The Call for Sites is the means by which Merton are developing their policies relating to potential development sites in the borough. Early yesterday the club delivered an updated submission to the London Borough of Merton as part of LBM’s Sites and Policies Development Plan Document (DPD) consultation, often referred to as the ‘Call for Sites’.

To be clear, this is not a planning application, but a revised and updated statement of how the site could be developed. The club’s document sets out how our ambitions for ‘Site Proposal 37’ (The Greyhound Stadium on Plough Lane) have developed since our previous representations were submitted in July 2012, as discussions with stakeholders, the council and statutory bodies have progressed.

We envisage that, with additional consultation, the proposals will be further refined. However, as with the previous representations, the proposals are for a stadium-led mixed use redevelopment, comprising a new stadium for AFC Wimbledon; residential accommodation; a hotel; education uses; and retail.

The full submission will be available on the Merton Council web site in the near future.
