Dons sign striker on loan

Crystal Palace man signs until end of season

Neal Ardley today bolstered his attacking options before the loan transfer deadline closed with the arrival of Crystal Palace striker Kwesi Appiah.

The 23-year-old, who was signed by Palace two years ago after a prolific spell in non league with Margate, came to the attention of the Wimbledon management earlier this season when he scored 10 goals in 14 games at Cambridge United.

Speaking to Dons Player, Neal believes that Kwesi, who has signed until the end of the season, is exactly what his squad needs at this moment.

“Kwesi has been on our radar all season,” said Neal. “He scored 10 goals at Cambridge United earlier this season and he has played recently for Notts County. We had been looking to try and strengthen in this area because we are without players up front at the moment. Charlie Wyke is set to go back soon, Charlie Sheringham is out on loan, Jack Midson is now suspended and Danny Hylton has been ill.

“When we realised that Kwesi was back at Palace and available we worked hard to bring him in this week. He is quick, direct and is a good finisher. Kwesi will bring that directness and he’s a strong boy. He offers something different from what we’ve got up front at the current time.”

Kwesi’s 35 goals in 33 games for Margate earned him a move to Palace two years ago and he has since made 10 first-team appearances for the Eagles. During his time at Palace, Kwesi has had loan spells at Aldershot, Yeovil Town, Notts County and Cambridge United.
