Charlie Strutton is hoping for a chance to haunt York City once again tomorrow after edging closer to full fitness.
Strutton, who scored his first professional goal against York City and three goals overall in the two FA Cup ties against the Minstermen earlier this season, put himself in contention for tomorrow by impressing during the midweek Surrey Senior Cup tie against Chipstead.
Speaking to Rob Cornell on Dons Player, the 23-year-old (pictured above with his man of the match award after the 4-3 York City replay win) said: “I think my fitness is not where it should be at the moment but I am working on it. I have played in the county cups and I am over my injuries now. It is all good memories that I have of playing against York. I scored my first professional goal against them and then I scored two goals in the replay. I am not sure though whether I will be in the squad for Saturday – I will just have to wait and see.”
Even if Strutton is not included tomorrow, the striker who only moved up from non league Chalfont St Peter last year says he is constantly learning from watching the experienced Gary Alexander.
“When Gary first came here, Neil Cox told me to watch what he does in training and in games,” added Strutton. “That is what I have been doing and I have learned from the way that he holds the ball up and brings other players into play. It is brilliant for me to have someone like Gary here.
“The main thing obviously is for us to stay up. Since the New Year we have been doing really well, but all the teams around us have been doing the same. We have a great chance of staying up and the mood around the squad is very positive. I do not see any reason why we cannot win the games that we have coming up.”
