Striker targets improvement at home
Tom Elliott believes that the Dons have quality options up front – and no one is guaranteed a regular starting berth.
Though the goals have not yet been flooding in for AFC Wimbledon this season, Elliott believes it is a matter of time before things change.
Speaking during an interview for Dons Player, Elliott (pictured in match action at Carlisle) also revealed the groin injury that caused him to be withdrawn on Saturday is not serious.
“We have got great choices up front and it is going to be hard for anyone to keep the shirt,” said Elliott. “Lyle Taylor is a good finisher, we all know what Bayo can do up there with his strength and Ade Azeez is a great athlete.
“I think that going back to 4-4-2 has helped me and we have been playing really good football. In the last three games the boys have been playing well, but little mistakes from set-pieces have let us down. I think it is going to click for us and then we will go on a run hopefully.
“I was a bit disappointed to be honest (with 1-1 draw at Carlisle). We had a few chances, including for myself, but at least we didn’t come all this way and get nothing. I did a run and felt my groin a bit, but I don’t think it is serious. We will assess it this week and see how it goes.”
Following a hectic start to the season, Wimbledon have a midweek without a first-team game and Elliott believes it will recharge the batteries of his squad.
“We have had a lot of games and I think it will be a good thing for the squad to have a full week to prepare for the next game (at home to Exeter),” added Elliott. “The manager had said that we did not have a good away record last season, but now we have picked that up. Now we have to do the same with the home form. The boys are full of confidence and everyone is determined to start turning draws and losses into wins.”
