Dons Trust writes to the council

The Dons Trust has written to Merton Council to officially support AFC Wimbledon’s planning application for a new ground in Wimbledon.

Below is the letter that Matt Breach, Chairman of the Dons Trust, wrote to the council.

I am the Chairman of the Wimbledon Football Club Supporters Society Limited, usually known as the Dons Trust. The Trust currently comprises 2,432 members who are supporters of AFC Wimbledon.

The Trust carried out a survey of its members in 2013 so as to establish their wishes as to its priorities. The top priority was to remain in fan ownership. However, the next most important priority was an overwhelming wish to return to a stadium in our home borough of Merton.

We believe that the application is well thought out, will help to regenerate an area that is very much run down, and will give AFC Wimbledon a base from which to expand its already impressive community work in the borough and also in the neighbouring borough of Wandsworth. As a consequence, I am writing on behalf of our board and our members to express our support for the application.

Individual Dons Trust members can also write to support the application if they wish – the current public consultation ends on October 8.

The Trust board believes that members living in the SW17, SW18 and SW19 postcodes are likely to have more weight attached to their views. The board is not encouraging members who live in other postcodes to write, unless they did not write during the first consultation or they have some new comments to make about the application.
