Young Dons aim to build on win v Daggers

AFC Wimbledon Under-18s will today be aiming to sign off with a win in their final fixture before the Christmas break after a morale-boosting victory against Dagenham & Redbridge.

The young Dons host Southend today on the back of an impressive 2-0 win against Daggers on Thursday. That was particularly praiseworthy because manager Mark Robinson had to reshuffle his squad with several of his squad having been involved in the win for Alan Reeves’ development side against Luton two days earlier.

Dons defenders Taylor Roles and Dom Bongo produced fine displays to keep Dagenham at bay in the first-half, while at the other end Dan Agyei was denied by a brilliant save in a first-half that ended 0-0.

It was a different story after the break though with trialist Tayshan Hayden-Smith having an instant impact after replacing Egli Kaja. Hayden-Smith exchanged passes with Dan Ano and Jason Stripp, before striking an unstoppable shot into the top corner.

It got better for the Dons as they sealed victory four minutes from time through another substitute. Under-16 Reece Williams-Bowers (pictured) applied the finish after good build-up play involving Ano, Stripp and Hayden-Smith.

Jason Stripp was man of the match for AFC Wimbledon.
