U-21s gear up for Reading

5 August 2014

Update from Alan and league fixture list

AFC Wimbledon Under-21s warmed up for a much tougher challenge against Reading on Saturday with an impressive victory at Cray Valley Paper Mills last night.

Goals from Callum Overton (pictured) and trialists Harvey Hodd and Rammell Lake put Wimbledon three-up at half-time, before a second-half Chace Jacquart penalty helped earn a 4-1 win.

It meant a first win for Alan Reeves since he took over as Under-21s coach, ahead of a difficult pre-season friendly at Reading.

“The lads started really well and we could have won by more in the end,” said Alan. “We had some great performances out there. Egli Kaja looked a threat whenever he got the ball and Callum Overton worked really hard up front and put himself about. Ryan Sweeney and Ben Harrison did well at the back too, but I had to take Ben off at half-time because he played for the first-team on Saturday.

“The team made a few mistakes last night, but that’s always going to happen with young players. I’ve told the players that I don’t mind them making mistakes, but it’s about their reactions afterwards. They have to deal with that and it’s about their decision-making. I’ll be making decisions on trialists this week and some will get another chance on Saturday, but we’ll also be bringing more in too.”

AFC Wimbledon Under-21s will have competitive action in the Final Third Development League next season with home fixtures at Merstham FC as we announced last week.
