Countdown to 2014/15

27 July 2014

A look at Wimbledon's opponents as part of FL campaign

It’s now just 13 days until 2014/15 gets underway and as part of the Football League’s “Wall of Colour” campaign we’re counting down to the new season.

AFC Wimbledon will be encouraging fans to wear their scarves, shirts, rosettes, hats, and anything else in blue and yellow to help the Dons to victory against Shrewsbury. We are planning to run an event on Saturday, 9 August, to fit in with the Football League’s aim to celebrate the new season at clubs all around the country.

We’re featuring all of Wimbledon’s opponents next season – in reverse order on the fixture list – as we count down to the big kick-off.

Following a dramatic final-day survival with victory at Torquay United, it was unsurprising that manager Gareth Ainsworth (pictured) decided to make wholesale changes. Dons favourite Ainsworth knows that the slide which saw Wanderers on the brink of going back to the Conference after 21 years in the Football League must not continue. In order to reverse their fortunes, several long-serving players have departed, including Leon Johnson, and six additions have since been made. Defender Joe Jacobson has experienced promotions, most recently with Shrewsbury in 2012, and with Sido Jombati (former Cheltenham) and Peter Murphy (ex-Accrington Stanley) also added to the mix, Wanderers will have plenty of League 2 experience to revitalise their fortunes.
