We are pleased to announce the loan signing this afternoon of Charlton Athletic centre-back Yado Mambo.
The 20-year-old joins on a one-month loan deal and goes straight into our squad at Oxford United tomorrow night.
Our caretaker manager Simon Bassey had to act quickly to bring in defensive reinforcements after Dale Bennett was ruled out with a back injury. With Pim Balkestein (groin) and Mat Mitchel-King (back) still sidelined, Simon had limited options for the trip to the Kassam Stadium.
“We are short of centre-backs so we have had to go back into the loan market today,” Simon said. “We spoke to Chris Powell at Charlton and he has let us take Yado Mambo, a player who I have watched in the last few years. Yado will bring a good physical presence to us at the back and he is quick and can head a ball. I watched him play for Charlton’s first-team against Reading last season in the League Cup and he had a smashing game. He lacks first-team experience, but he will be a good defender for us to call on in the next month.”
Yado, who has come through the ranks at Charlton, has had previous loan spells at Staines Town and Ebbsfleet United.
