Ryan, a Bristol Rovers academy graduate, spent six seasons with the Pirates as back-up keeper, in the last of which he went on loan to Forest Green Rovers.
He then had a three-season spell with Salisbury City, winning promotion to the Conference Premier. After going on loan to troubled Northwich Victoria, he moved to Oxford United in May 2009 and a year later helped them to promotion to League Two – despite scoring an own goal in the play-off final.
After making over 250 appearances for the U’s in six seasons, he joined Northampton Town to link up with former U’s boss Chris Wilder. Ryan was signed by the Dons in June after a season largely spent on the bench at Northampton.
