Solo effort seals first win for Under-18s

WATCH: Captain Rudoni nets a great goal to see off Milton Keynes

Skipper Jack Rudoni scored a superb individual goal as the young Dons recorded their first league win of the season against Milton Keynes.

“The ball dropped in the middle for me, so I thought I’d take it on,” said Jack. “I went past my marker, the centre-back slid in and I took a touch just before he did and avoided the challenge. I was one-on-one with the ‘keeper, so I just stayed calm and slotted home.

“The boys were buzzing afterwards, but there are still things to work on so we’ll look to kick on from this, take the positives and work on them”

Although the score line was only 1-0, the under-18s dominated proceedings from start to finish, in this Youth Alliance fixture at New Malden. In a game of very few clear cut chances, Dons keeper Bert White didn’t have a save to make in 90 minutes.

The Dons didn’t create as many chances as their possession maybe should have warranted, but certainly on the balance of play would have looked to have finished with more than the one goal advantage. In the end it was a 69th minute solo effort from Rudoni (pictured) that earned the Dons the points, despite going down to 10 men in the 82nd minute when Hussain Biler was shown a second yellow card.

AFC Wimbledon under-18s travel to Leyton Orient this Saturday, with kick-off at 10.30am.
