Song to be launched on Monday

AFC Wimbledon and Cherry Red Records are pleased to announce that the Big Blast Band and their single “We are Wimbledon” will be available to download from Monday.

When the Big Blast Band premiered their own version of the classic Wimbledon FA Cup Final song to an appreciative half-time audience during a League 2 match against Burton Albion last season, it not only helped inspire the team to a 4-0 victory. That’s because it was a life-changing experience for the Big Blast Band, consisting of 12 people with learning disabilities from High Path Day Centre in Merton. Active in their local community, AFC Wimbledon teamed up with High Path to launch this innovative community project. Under the expert guidance of Elisabeth Wigly (Merton Music Foundation) and John Merriman (Crown Lane Studios), the band explored music through the chants and percussive rhythms before taking to their stage at the Cherry Red Records Stadium.

Following their live performance, the Big Blast Band took to the studio, aided by members of the AFC Wimbledon first-team squad. The enthusiasm of current players Sammy Moore, Jack Midson, Byron Harrison, Christian Jolley and Luke Moore added to the dedication and exuberance that the band brought to the studio.

AFC Wimbledon are proud to welcome the High Path “Super Dons” to their community, and the whole project serves as an inspiration to the great things that can be achieved when a community joins together for positivity.

“We are Wimbledon” will be available from Monday, 27 August to download from iTunes and all other good digital retail stores. All proceeds will be donated towards community projects, such as the above.
