Dons Trust benefits from sponsorship deal

Betfair have made a generous donation to the Dons Trust after sponsoring AFC Wimbledon for Sunday’s FA Cup tie.

Along with a back-of-shirt sponsorship deal for the match, the popular online betting firm pledged refunds before the cup tie for Wimbledon supporters who had purchased tickets and had a last-minute change of heart about attending the match at Milton Keynes.

Following the decision of the 3,000 or so Wimbledon fans who did attend the match, Betfair will be making a donation to the Dons Trust, rewarding the commitment of the club and its fans in difficult circumstances. The offer was promoted as Betfair’s “Do You, Don’t You” dilemma.

AFC Wimbledon manager, Neal Ardley, said: “Everyone connected to this great club knows how hard this match was for us and our supporters. We’re grateful to Betfair for helping our fans with a tough decision and now for its donation to the club.”

Betfair’s Andy Holmes added: “By giving Wimbledon fans the offer of a refund on their Milton Keynes match ticket, we resolved a very emotive dilemma for supporters and left the decision as to whether to attend in their hands. Having witnessed the loyalty of these fans, we are delighted that we are still able to show our support to them and the club in another way."
