Wimbledon eliminated from FA Women's Cup
AFC Wimbledon Ladies bowed out of the FA Women’s Cup yesterday after conceding four second-half goals at Ipswich Town Ladies.
It had all looked so promising at half-time of the first round tie with Aramide Okeklunle (pictured) having equalised to make it 1-1 just before the break, but Ipswich were rampant during the second-half and eventually triumphed 5-1.
The Dons Ladies, who made the first round proper of the competition for the first time since 2005, produced a plucky effort for most of the match in Suffolk as they were only 2-1 down midway through the second-half. However, they conceded three goals in the final 24 minutes as Ipswich – a level above them in the league pyramid – showed superior fitness and drive during the latter stages.
Tony Milstead’s side will now have to pick themselves up to move away from the bottom places in the London & South East Regional Women’s Premier Division.
