New approach for Christian

We may have had a mixed pre-season so far, but Christian Jolley believes Wimbledon will be in great shape for the first competitive fixture at Stevenage on 14 August.

The pacy forward admits he is some way short of his best after a lighter close season schedule that was designed to keep him free from injury. But Christian is relishing the pre-season tests against Eastbourne Borough, Preston North End, a West Ham XI and Portsmouth as he steps up his own fitness levels.

"I did things differently this time by resting more during the close season and I am just trying to get back to full fitness now," he said. "I am a little bit off where I would like to be, but I have plenty of time still to get there. The fixtures we have had so far have been very competitive. If we want to aspire to get into those play-offs and reach League 1 then we need to be competing against the likes of Preston. The matches coming up will be great tests for us. Hopefully, we will get fitter and stronger and by the time Stevenage comes around we will be flying."

In the interview with WDON commentator Rob Cornell, Christian also saluted Dean Parsons (Haydon the Womble) for carrying the Olympic torch through Sutton on Monday. Dons fan Amy Terriere also carried the Olympic torch through Croydon. AFC Wimbledon congratulates Dean and Amy. To listen to a full interview with Christian, click on http://bit.ly/OpWdVo
