Treble bid for U18s

AFC Wimbledon Under-18s have started pre-season with two impressive away wins and they will be bidding to make it three tomorrow.

Mark Robinson's side edged out Maidstone United 3-2 yesterday with goals from Tom Beere, Charlie Fayers and Sam Baffour and they head to Hayes and Yeading tomorrow with the chance to make it a pre-season treble. The Dons youngsters started their preparations for the new season with a 2-1 win at Lewes, thanks to goals from George Oakley and Harlan Basker, last Monday.

The Under-18s start their Football League Youth Alliance campaign on Saturday, August 11, and they have impressed so far. Head of Youth, Robinson, said: "We gave the other team two goals yesterday by over-playing, but I do not mind that as they are trying to play good football and it is part of the learning process. In terms of our movement and creating chances I was very pleased, especially with the first-half. We have a mix of second year players from the U18s last season, along with younger players. George and Harlan, the players who scored against Lewes, are both U16s players, so we are pleased with the talent that we have got."

AFC Wimbledon Under-18s step-up their preparations for the new season tomorrow afternoon with Hayes and Yeading away, before a home match against Histon on Friday.
