Order Niall Couper's book
At 5.44 pm on 21 May 2011, Danny Kedwell turned to his team-mates gathered on the half-way line at the City of Manchester Stadium. The scores were tied at 3-3 on penalties. His kick would send AFC Wimbledon into the Football League. The Dons captain said four words: “This is our time.” The rest is history.
Those four words provide the title of Niall Couper’s new book, published this September by Dons patrons Cherry Red Books. The follow-up to the acclaimed ‘Spirit of Wimbledon’, this new tome documents the club’s rise from the ashes of Wimbledon FC through to our first season in the Football League, and recounts all of the club’s key stories, as told by those directly involved.
Read about the FA Commission,Terry Burton’s plot to oust Charles Koppel, the MacAnthony takeover bid, WISA going face-to-face with Winkelman and the Jermaine Darlington affair. Relive Matt Everard’s last-minute winner at Herne Bay, the 2-1 win over Crawley with a defence with an average age of 19, the Staines play-off final, and the two cup finals at Woking. Read the opinions of Dons legends past and present from Shane Smeltz to Jon Main, and from Dario Gradi and Dave Bassett to Lawrie Sanchez and Marcus Gayle. And just about everything else in between.
‘This Is Our Time’ also features an extended players' view of the play-off final at the City of Manchester Stadium, and reveals the name of the Football League club that was offered to the Dons Trust back in 2002.
