Dave Beasant salutes AFC Wimbledon

Wimbledon hero Dave Beasant joined the whole of our current squad this afternoon as the FA Cup came to the Cherry Red Records Stadium.

Thanks to FA Cup sponsors Budweiser, Wimbledon’s penalty-saving captain from 1988 posed for photographs and spoke about Sunday’s cup tie at Milton Keynes to the media.

BBC London, ITN and Norwegian television station TV 2 were among the press to attend the event at the club.

Speaking to Dons Player, Dave Beasant, admitted that he has a lot of affection for AFC Wimbledon and saluted the club’s achievements.

“I think the majority of former Wimbledon players and those who played in the FA Cup Final have an affiliation with AFC Wimbledon,” he said. “A number of ex-players have been down here and supported the club. I have been here regularly and Ivor Heller often gets me a ticket. It is great to see the old faces and it is part of my history. Although I never played here, the fans that come here supported me when I played for Wimbledon. It is remarkable what AFC Wimbledon has achieved in such a short space of time.”
