FA Cup back at Wimbledon

29 November 2012

See the famous cup tonight

Just three days before AFC Wimbledon bid for a spot in the FA Cup third round, the famous prize will return to the place where Dave Beasant held it aloft in 1988.

As part of AFC Wimbledon’s presence at Winter Wonderland and thanks to sponsors Budweiser, the FA Cup will tonight be back in Wimbledon. Beasant, a hero of Wimbledon’s 1988 victory against Liverpool after saving a penalty from John Aldridge, paraded the FA Cup in front of thousands of supporters at Wimbledon Town Hall 24 years ago.

Tonight the FA Cup will be back in Wimbledon town centre to mark the start of Christmas celebrations, and the switching on of the lights. Dons manager Neal Ardley, players, fans and officials will be there from AFC Wimbledon. Haydon the Womble will be coming down from Wimbledon Common for the evening to play his part.

It will then be on display at Jimmy’s World Grill (The Broadway, Wimbledon town centre), where players, management and supporters will be dining. The FA Cup is expected to arrive in Wimbledon town centre at approximately 5.30 pm on the piazza outside Morrisons and will then accompany the AFC Wimbledon squad on the Winter Wonderland parade.

The AFC Wimbledon squad will be making their way to Jimmy’s World Grill with the FA Cup after the parade and we anticipate this will be at 7:00pm. Photographs will be permitted, but please note that all timings are approximate.
