The boss says future is bright at Wimbledon

Neal Ardley believes AFC Wimbledon has a talented crop of players with the potential to come through in future seasons after watching last night’s FA Youth Cup tie.

Speaking to Dons Player, the Wimbledon boss said he was a very interested spectator at last night’s 2-0 first round win against Farnborough.

Neal, who helped several players come through the ranks as Cardiff City’s Academy Manager, was particularly impressed by the playing style of the young Dons.

“I went to watch last night and I thought the boys controlled the game,” he said. “Mark Robinson (Wimbledon Academy Manager) is a perfectionist and he gets unhappy when the boys are not executing a plan the way he wants it to be done. But there were five or six players who you looked at and thought, ‘he could be a player’. That is what it is all about. A lot of positives could be taken from it. The way that they tried to pass the ball was excellent and hopefully it will be onwards and upwards in the next round.”

Dons Player subscribers can watch the full video interview with Neal Ardley and we also feature the thoughts of Mark Robinson, along with young midfielder Tom Beere, who made an impressive comeback from injury in the match.
