Pim returns with a bang

27 November 2012

Update from today's match

Pim Balkestein marked his return after two months on the sidelines with a goal for a Wimbledon development side at Gillingham this afternoon.

The Dutch centre-back, who has been out with a groin injury, continued his recuperation by playing 55 minutes in the 1-1 draw and he gave the Dons an early lead in the match with a free-kick. Club skipper Mat Mitchel-King also played for over an hour after returning from compassionate leave.

Seb Brown and Mikhael Jaimez-Ruiz shared goalkeeping duties during the match and there was also run-outs for other first-teamers, including Charlie Strutton, Frankie Merrifield and Huw Johnson, along with youngsters Emmanuel Akokhia and Harry Wise.

First-team coach Simon Bassey said: “A lot of the lads on the way back have to get game-time in now because they have not played for a while. We need players back as the squad has been a bit light recently. We need these players to be ready for when their chances come along. It was a good workout against a decent Gillingham side and hopefully this match will have helped bring players on that may be required for the first-team.”

Dons Player subscribers can now view a video interview with new signing Toby Ajala, who joined on loan from Bristol City just before the end of the emergency loan window on Thursday.
