Byron's number 9 award

15 October 2012

Our striker earns League 2 accolade

Byron Harrison’s impressive striking performance against Cheltenham on Saturday has been rewarded with his selection as the “number 9 of the week” in League 2.

Prostate Cancer UK, the official charity of the Football League, have this season chosen a striker wearing the number 9 every week – the link being that one in nine men will be diagnosed with Prostate Cancer during their lives.

Aimed at increasing awareness among men, former Southend and Stevenage striker, Adrian Clarke, has been selecting the striker most worthy of recognition each week and he has this time selected our rejuvenated striker for special recognition.

Byron’s overall display, which included his sixth goal of the season, caught the eye and Clarke, who now works as a journalist, had the following to say about his performance.

“The club record signing may not quite have lived up to his star billing yet since joining AFC Wimbledon, but with three goals in successive matches and six in total this term, he is fast becoming the main man at Kingsmeadow.”
