Defender in optimistic mood after six months out
Callum McNaughton is hoping to be back and fighting for a first-team place later this month after making good progress from a serious knee injury.
The former West Ham centre-back is confident that he will be back in full training in a couple of weeks as he has stepped up his recuperation by working with our fitness coach Jason Moriarty.
In an interview for Dons Player, Callum, who turns 21 later this month, said he is optimistic about his return after six months out with an anterior cruciate knee ligament injury.
“It is a great feeling to nearly be back now after such a long time out,” Callum said. “I just have to keep working hard and clear the final hurdle, but it is looking promising. I have recovered well so far after six months out and if I keep it up then hopefully I will be back very soon. I have been passed over to Jason recently to do more twisting and turning so that I can get a lot sharper. I am getting a lot fitter now. I have been kicking a ball for a while now and I am doing things more naturally.”
Callum, who signed for the Dons in January after impressing during a three-month loan spell, accepts that he faces a battle to establish himself again in our defence, but he will relish the challenge.
“We have had a lot of injuries in our defence and more players have come in,” he added. “It would be nice to come back in, but I want to stay fit all the time. I have to work hard and hopefully I can earn my place back in the team.”
