Haydon on home turf

Haydon the Womble will be bidding to make the most of home advantage on Sunday in our AFC Wimbledon Mascot Triathlon.

Haydon will be back on his old stamping ground at Wimbledon Common in the mascot competition, dubbed the “Chariots of Fur”, which starts at 3.00pm as part of the Wimbledon Common Stables Open Day. Mascots including last year’s winner Debra the Zebra, representing Merton Road Safety, will be taking on the likes of Pudsey Bear, Bully Bullseye, and Haydon, in lawn darts and tossing the bean bag, before a cross country hurdles race.

The event, staged next to Wimbledon Common Windmill, will raise money for the Children’s Liver Disease Foundation and AFC Wimbledon are hoping to raise £1,000 for the charity. The Liver Jazz Band will be providing the music for our mascots as they do battle. Of course, our younger AFC Wimbledon supporters can meet Haydon the Womble and any of the other mascots on the day. There will also be mascot awards for the winners of the individual events and the Womble Underground Press (WUP) Cup will be presented to the mascot with the highest points total. Children will have the opportunity to cheer for the “Cheekiest Mascot” with a very special award presented to the most entertaining mascot on the day.
