AFC Wimbledon Mascot Triathlon raises funds for charity

Haydon the Womble was one of four mascots to triumph at Wimbledon Common on Sunday in an event which raised vital funds for the Children’s Liver Disease Foundation.

The AFC Wimbledon Mascot Triathlon was a huge success as it raised over £600 for the charity, thanks to kind donations and sponsorship from local businesses. Our fun event, billed as the “Chariots of Fur”, involved mascots from all over the South East competing against each other as part of the Wimbledon Common Stables Open Day.

Mac the Monkey (The Micro and Anophthalmic Society) won the lawn darts, our very own Haydon triumphed in the bean bag toss, and Mike the Mic (Radio Royal Marsden) won the obstacle course. However, Cyril the Squirrel (St Helier Festival’s mascot) beat off stiff competition to earn the highest points score on the day and win the overall winner accolade. That meant he left the event clutching the WUP (Wombles Underground Press) Cup. Hampton’s Esate Agents in Wimbledon Village kindly sponsored Cyril’s glory dash.

The event provided an entertaining spectacle for local children, who voted Debra the Zebra (Merton Road Safety team) as the “Cheekiest Mascot”.
