Pim Balkestein says the Dons must be brave

Pim Balkestein says the Dons must stand up and be counted to turn their season around in the next two home games.

Speaking in a video interview for Dons Player, the experienced Dutch centre-back says the visit of his old club Rochdale this Saturday and Torquay three days later are vital games.

“We are in spell of the season when everything seems to go against you,” he said. “Every mistake is leading to a goal being scored against us and it is hard, but we have to fight against it. We have to stand up and be brave. Every footballer and every club will have the same period in your life when it is not going well and it is a case of standing up and being a man now. We have two massive games coming up now and we need at least four points from the games, anything less will be a disappointment.”

Pim was quick to admit that the recent performances of the defence, including himself, have simply not been good enough.

“The goals we have conceded have all been the mistakes of the defenders,” he added. “We have worked really hard with Stuart Cash, but we have to get much better. We have to push on now, but there are still enough signs that we have enough good players to climb the table. We have to look at the positives and block out the negatives.”
