Sophie to run in Minithon

Gold medal winner shows her support

Dons fans are unlikely to have seen the last of Sophie Hosking after her triumphant return to AFC Wimbledon as the Olympic gold medal winner has promised to support our Minithon.

Sophie, who was presented to the crowd at half-time of Saturday’s Dagenham & Redbridge match, will run in the AFC Wimbledon Minithon on 30 September.

And the former Wimbledon FC Ladies player plans to get along and support her team on a more regular basis in the future with her Olympic rowing commitments now out of the way.

I have supported Wimbledon all my life and when AFC Wimbledon was set-up I got behind it and went to the very first game so I have a lot of loyalty for the club. It was fantastic coming down here. I have wanted to come down since I raced and won, but this was the right time to do it. It was great to see everyone and I have had such a warm reception.” Speaking to Dons Player, Sophie said: “It has been hard fitting it in around my training, but hopefully now I will be able to come down and support the team a bit more. It was an improvement for the team to get a draw today and hopefully they will be able to take a step forward in the next few games.

The full interview with Sophie can be viewed on our Dons Player site.

AFC Wimbledon wishes to thank Sophie for being the club’s special guest on Saturday and for her support of the Minithon, which will be supported by Terry’s Badges.
