"Great support spurred us on" says Jack
Wimbledon’s dramatic final-day survival resulted in jubilant scenes that supporters will remember for years to come – and match-winner Jack Midson is unlikely to forget the celebrations in a hurry.
Our club photographer Paul Willatts captured the above image of Wimbledon’s top scorer being congratulated by the fans after his penalty maintained the club’s Football League status.
The man of the moment was also in demand afterwards as he picked up two player of the year awards and then had to fulfil numerous media demands from local and national media.
Jack said: “We had great support from the fans and it really spurred the players on. We are all in this together in terms of the fans, the staff and us as players.”
Jonathan Meades, who picked up Wimbledon’s Young Player of the Year award, said: “I had watched things like this on the television, but to actually be a part of the jubilant scenes and to celebrate with the fans on the pitch was something special.”
The season may now be over, but there’s not too long to wait until AFC Wimbledon find out their League 2 fixtures for 2013/14. The Football League will announce the full fixture list on Wednesday, 19 June at 9.00 am.
