Midfielder aims for happy return against old mates
Sammy Moore says he’s relishing the prospect of a battle against former team-mates at Newport County on Saturday.
Sammy missed the Mansfield match due to suspension, but he’s hoping to get the nod to face the likes of Lee Minshull, Christian Jolley and Ryan Jackson at Rodney Parade.
“I know a few of their boys and it’s going to be difficult," said Sammy. "We have watched a video of Newport and they get in your faces and win a lot of the second balls. Lee is a physical presence and they have Christian Jolley going down the wing.
“I have spoken to Lee and he’s been on the bench recently, but he has been doing well. He was one of my best pals when he was here and I still keep in touch with him. I’m sure there will be a bit of banter before Saturday. It was an incredible achievement to get Wimbledon back into the Football League. I still keep in touch with a lot of the lads from that season and Lee played a major part for us.”
Sammy believes the Dons are capable of being in the top half of League 2 this season and he is determined to make up for lost time after being ruled out for Mansfield.
“I think this season we have shown that we can be a good team in the Football League,” he added. “It’s going to be tough on Saturday, but I see no reason why we cannot go there and get three points. We have to face up to the challenge and do the right things. We need to win the second balls and do our jobs.
“I was disappointed to be suspended on Saturday, but that’s football. I need to make sure that does not happen again and that I stay in the team.”
