Billy's magic wins Dons poll

12 February 2013

Goal of the year competition winner announced

Billy Knott’s superb strike against Macclesfield Town has won our online poll for AFC Wimbledon’s goal of 2012.

The Football League launched its Mitre Goal of the Year competition last week and we decided to ask supporters to vote for their best goal from a shortlist of six.

Though Billy Knott no longer plays for Wimbledon and he is currently on loan at Woking from Sunderland, supporters had clearly not forgotten his contribution with the goal earning 65 per cent of your vote.

Dons supporter Fabio Perselli said: “It’s got to be Billy Knott’s goal for lifting our spirits in spectacular fashion, if nothing else (bring him back).”

The winner will be decided at the glittering Football League awards ceremony at The Brewery, London on Sunday, 24 March 2013.
