Neal Ardley's verdict on Wimbledon's overall display
Neal Ardley said Wimbledon proved against Northampton tonight that they have enough quality to survive in League 2 this season.
The Wimbledon boss saluted his side’s performance in their 1-1 draw as “outstanding” and not even Northampton’s late leveller could dampen his enthusiasm about the overall display from his players.
Speaking to Dons Player, Neal Ardley said: “I am disappointed with the result in the end, but I do not think I can fault anything in our team performance today, apart from that we did not get a second or third goal. I thought we were outstanding. The whole performance from start to finish was excellent. Looking at the level of performance that we produced, I believe that we have more than enough to stay up.
“In terms of our energy, work rate, our closing down, the way that we moved the ball and the chances that we created, it was a great performance. Every part of our display today was what we have been aiming for in the past few weeks. Though we may be disappointed not to get the three points, I am immensely proud of what I have seen today.”
Toby Ajala has now completed his three-month loan spell with Wimbledon and Neal Ardley praised the winger’s commitment to the Wimbledon cause.
“As happens with most youngsters, Toby started well with us and then had a bit of a dip in form,” said Neal. “But he came on strong again and I thought he was excellent again for us tonight. He had a sore throat and was struggling a bit during the game, but the commitment that the boy has shown for us will only stand him in good stead for his future in the game.”
All at AFC Wimbledon wish Toby well back at his club Bristol City and in his future career.
