Frankie leaves Wimbledon

1 July 2013

Midfielder departs the Dons

AFC Wimbledon have decided to allow Frankie Merrifield to leave the club so that the 19-year-old can gain first-team opportunities elsewhere.

Manager Neal Ardley and Frankie discussed his future recently and this led to the conclusion that the midfielder should be released to pursue other options.

“We had a very honest conversation in which we discussed Frankie’s options and what would be best for both parties,” said Neal. “We felt that first-team football was not going to be available to Frankie for next season and that the development squad would not be for him either because he has already been out on loan and played senior football. Both parties agreed that it would be best for Frankie’s future for him to go elsewhere for first-team football. “

Frankie made his first-team debut as a substitute last August at Bradford City and he went onto make six appearances, which included a goal in the 2-1 Johnstone’s Paint Trophy defeat at Southend United.

The club wishes to thank Frankie for his efforts in a Wimbledon shirt and we wish him every success in his future career.
