Volunteers needed for this weekend
AFC Wimbledon’s first pre-season home match is now just eight days away and we need your help to clean up the Cherry Red Records Stadium in time for FC United’s visit.
We had a great response to the first of our work weekends at the end of May with 50 fans generously giving up their time to do jobs around the ground (our picture above shows Matchday Groundsman David McKnight chipping in and other volunteers are featured in our gallery).
Many jobs need doing this Saturday and Sunday to ensure that the stadium is in good order when the new season kicks off. These include clearing Jack Goodchild Way of rubbish and weeds, tidying up the car park and power washing areas inside the stadium, particularly facilities in the Tempest End. Although most tools will be provided, if you are able to bring your own - in particular, power washers - that would be appreciated. Refreshments will be provided throughout the day.
Organiser Margaret Adam, who has put together a database of helpers since the very first work weekend nine years ago, said: “We want one final push this summer to get the stadium in pristine condition before the start of next season. It was another brilliant effort from our volunteers in May. People do it for the love of the club, it is obviously very much appreciated, and we welcome them with open arms. We built this up after the club took over the stadium in 2003.
“At first we had a team of about seven or eight helpers who would organise the wheelie bins and empty the bin bags after matches. Then we organised the stadium clean-up weekends with the help of the club and we have always had a great response.”
