Dons Player intervew with Callum Overton

to the club.Callum Overton is delighted to have put the finishing touch to his home-grown Under-18s squad by welcoming highly-rated striker Mark RobinsonAcademy Manager

Having banged in around 80 goals during six seasons of playing for Brighton’s youth teams, 15-year-old Callum was much in demand when he left the Seagulls last season. Premier League giants Manchester City offered Callum a trial and West Brom were also interested, but he chose to join the Dons.

Though Callum will be the only one of Mark Robinson’s new crop of Under-18s not to have come through the ranks, there will be no one with more passion for the Wimbledon shirt. Callum has supported the Dons since he was a child and his favourite Wimbledon player was Jon Main.

, Callum said: “I have always been a big Wimbledon fan and my Dad would take me to watch them when I was a kid. I was a mascot and a ball boy and Jon Main was my favourite player. When I came down to train here for the first time I knew straight away that I would sign for Wimbledon if they wanted me to. I have been made to feel welcome here and I aim to work hard on my game and learn from the coaching team.”Dons PlayerSpeaking to

Mark Robinson said: “I saw him play last season for Brighton when they played against us. Callum and his Dad were very impressed with our age group and as soon as we found out that he was not happy at Brighton we invited him here. Callum has got unbelievable confidence, which is what you need for a goalscorer. More importantly, he backs that up with passion and desire. It is okay coming in and telling people what you can do, but Callum has an unbelievable desire to make it happen. Callum has the attitude you want as a coach and It was an obvious choice to offer him a scholarship.

“All the boys except for Callum have come through the ranks at Wimbledon and a lot of them have been with us since they were eight or nine. That is a unique situation and now we have to do the best we can to take them onto the next stage.”
