Final pre-season match ends in defeat
Wimbledon ended their pre-season programme with defeat in Italy tonight after a promising first-half eventually came to nothing.
The Dons were eventually beaten 3-0 in Monza, just over 37 years since that Anglo-Italian Cup defeat against the same club.
Neal Ardley’s men finished the match with 10 men after Peter Sweeney had been sent off late on. The visitors were well beaten by that point, but it could have been so different if Charlie Sheringham’s strike had not been disallowed and Charlie Strutton (pictured) also forced the Monza goalkeeper into a fine save.
