Last chance for auction bids

15 June 2013

All funds raised go towards We Are Wimbledon Fund

Time is running out to bid for a fantastic range of Wimbledon memorabilia for the We Are Wimbledon Fund.

With just over  day to go, the fund for Neal Ardley’s playing budget is set to receive another sizeable donation from supporters.

Below is a reminder about each item, along with bids received so far, and you still have a chance to grab a slice of Wimbledon history.

The closing date for bids is Sunday, 16 June, at 10.00 pm and details of how to bid are at the bottom of this page.

Our picture above shows Lot 1, followed by Lots 2-6 in the gallery of images.

Lot 1: Jack Midson stepping up for THAT penalty (£275)

A colour 8 x 10 photograph of Jack Midson scoring the crucial spot-kick against Fleetwood Town on the final day of last season that helped the Dons retain their Football League status. Signed by Jack Midson and framed, it is THE moment that mattered for Wimbledon in the 2012/13 campaign.

Lot 2: 1963 FA Amateur Cup montage (£225)

If you missed the chance to meet the heroes of 1963 at the end of season dinner, then this unique item may be for you. Included in a 20 x 16 black frame is a photograph of the victorious Dons side with the cup, which is signed by captain Roy Law, plus Mike Kelly, Dave Willis, Bobby Ardrey, John Martin and Geoff Hamm. Also included in the frame are two original newspaper match reports and the official programme from that day.

Lot 3: 1988 FA Cup print (£200)

An unusual limited edition watercolour print of Wimbledon’s FA Cup-winning team, which is signed by Vinnie Jones and framed in black wood.

Lot 4: The History Book (£75)

A professionally-produced 15 x 12 leather-bound book from the Historic Newspapers company, which depicts numerous headlines spanning Wimbledon’s rise through the divisions, commencing in 1962. This is a fascinating snapshot of Wimbledon’s colourful history and it highlights other news from the back pages of years gone by when the Dons were creating sports headlines of their own.

Lot 5: The Crazy Gang (£100)

An A2-sized framed colour team poster of Dave Bassett’s 1986/87 Wimbledon FC side. Signed during the last days of the Bassett era and the early stages of Bobby Gould’s reign, the poster has been signed by 28 players spanning both squads. Ten of the 1988 FA Cup-winning squad have signed it. The poster has been folded at some point, but the list of signatures in one place is very rare indeed.

Lot 6: It Only Took Nine Years! (£75)

This item is truly rare as it is one of the celebratory Blue Square “We’re Going Up!” promotion T-shirts given to the AFC Wimbledon squad shortly after they clinched promotion to the Football League. This shirt was worn by Brett Johnson, who kindly signed the front, and it may have some slight Champagne
