AFC Wimbledon sign new goalkeeper
We can confirm that the Dons have this morning signed a new goalkeeper on loan with the arrival of Charlton Athletic’s John Sullivan.
Neal Ardley was forced to act swiftly after Doncaster Rovers decided to exercise their call-back option and recall Neil Sullivan from his AFC Wimbledon loan following an injury to their number one Gary Woods.
John Sullivan (pictured above), age 25, started his career at Brighton and gained Football League experience with the Seagulls. After a spell at Millwall, John joined Charlton on a permanent basis after impressing during a loan stint with the Addicks. He has made seven first-team appearances in total for Charlton and has had loan spells at Yeovil Town and Colchester United in recent seasons.
John Sullivan has been signed on loan from Charlton until the end of the season.
The decision of Doncaster Rovers to recall Neil Sullivan means that the 43-year-old Wimbledon favourite cannot now return to the Dons under the terms of the loan deal.
Neal Ardley said: “John Sullivan has been on our radar for a while now. We have looked at a number of players in various positions in case we had to act swiftly. This has certainly helped in terms of the goalkeeping situation because we never had to start from scratch.
“John is local and he will bring a lot of good qualities for us. That is not to detract from what Neil Sullivan has done for us. We have lost Neil now as the rules state that once he has been recalled in an emergency then he cannot come back. Neil has been fantastic for us and despite his age, I still think he was one of the best goalkeepers in League 2 during his time with us.”
