Football launch for over-50s

20 March 2013

Enjoy a kick about for free next Wednesday

If you’re over 50 and fancy a kick about with people of the same age, then why not attend AFC Wimbledon’s “Walking Football” launch on Wednesday, 27 March.

It may offer you a chance to roll back the years and recapture those silky football skills, or just have a friendly game and socialise with others.

The free weekly indoor football sessions – aimed at over-50s residing in the borough of Merton and Merton Priory Homes – have been launched for people who may not have a desire to play the game at a fast pace, but still want to partake in regular exercise and meet new friends.

The sessions, to be held every Wednesday (between 6.00 pm and 8.00 pm) at the Tooting & Mitcham Hub, last for one hour and they are followed by an hour of social interaction and use of facilities (pool and darts availability, along with access to Sky Sports).

Our picture above shows two potential recruits with Alan Williams and Roy Bacon both parading their Wimbledon colours.

AFC Wimbledon’s Community Football Scheme has teamed up with Merton Prior Homes and the Sutton & Merton NHS Live-Well organisation to launch the scheme.

Free health advice from NHS Live-Well Champions and free light and healthy snacks will be available. Free travel is also provided from Merton Priory Homes.
