Support Easter Monday's We Are Wimbledon push
AFC Wimbledon supporters have been urged to make Easter Monday an extra special day for the club by getting behind the We Are Wimbledon Fund.
The match against Barnet has been designated as “We Are Wimbledon Day” and organisers want fans to wear colours and bring flags to turn it into a big AFC Wimbledon occasion.
As well as a team of volunteers encouraging fans to sign up for direct debits to move the project forward, there will be fun for all the family to enjoy with an Easter Egg Hunt and Bunny Bingo.
The We Are Wimbledon Fund will have a sign-up table by the main bar at the Cherry Red Records Stadium and volunteers will be on hand at other parts of the ground.
Supporters of fan-owned AFC Wimbledon recently started the We Are Wimbledon Fund with the aim of raising £400,000 a year to contribute towards the playing budget.
Since launching in February, We Are Wimbledon campaigners have been rallying the cause at home games. The scheme, which is endorsed by The Dons Trust, owners of AFC Wimbledon, has been worked on by a group led by long-term supporter Xavier Wiggins. It is hoped that the We Are Wimbledon Fund can raise £100,000 mark by the end of Easter Monday.
Spokesman for the We Are Wimbledon Fund, Xavier Wiggins, said: “Let's hit the £100,000 mark together in the name of a more competitive team for the Dons in the long-term as we embark on the next leg of our exciting journey.”
We will work incredibly hard behind the scenes to give us the best chance of using the money wisely and I see it as my job to make sure that when we have a new stadium and can return home, we do so with a strong and successful team." Wimbledon manager Neal Ardley said: “If we want to increase our competitiveness on the pitch then there is only one way to do it, which is why I was delighted when the 'We are Wimbledon' fund was started. I'm fully behind the fund and if you can afford to contribute a little bit more then please do so.
