Young forward included in the first-team squad
Promising forward Tom Beere had no hesitation about changing his plans for tomorrow night after he was called up for the first-team’s fixture at Accrington Stanley.
The 18-year-old (pictured), who scored twice for the Dons against Cray Wanderers in a 4-3 London Senior Cup defeat last Wednesday, earned reward for his impressive recent form by joining the first-team squad on the coach for Accrington today.
Speaking to Dons Player, Academy Manager Mark Robinson said that he told Tom the good news this morning after a chat with Neal Ardley.
“I rang Tom to tell him and he was on the bus travelling to training,” said Mark Robinson. “He quickly got off and jumped on the bus the other way so that he could get his overnight bag. Tom was excited, but he is a quiet lad and just needs to have more self-belief.
“It is more for experience than anything else so that he can go on an away trip with the first-team and see what that entails. I spoke to Neal and we both felt that Tom had done really well - he scored two goals in the London Senior Cup – and we decided this was a good chance for him.
“Tom is getting better all the time. He can play wide left or right as he has two good feet and he can also play as a number 10 behind the strikers. Tom has pretty much got everything, but he just needs to believe in himself a bit more.”
AFC Wimbledon Under-18s were beaten 3-1 at Northampton on Saturday with Harlen Basker netting a late consolation for the Dons.
