Volunteer's idea helps playing budget
Community volunteer Clive Yelf has made the most of your unwanted CDs and DVDs by donating £1,000 to the We Are Wimbledon Fund.
Clive’s iDons stall – a regular feature at Dons matches in the past – has collected CDs and DVDs from supporters to sell them at fetes and fairs over the last few years. Clive ensured the proceeds were saved for a worthwhile cause and making a three-figure donation to the fund designed to help with the club’s playing budget certainly fits into that category.
The £1,000 cheque was handed over by Clive, (pictured above), who ran the stall and collected donations from generous supporters.
“I would always joke that all sales were to help fund the next Jon Main’s right leg, but I’m hoping that with this donation it might not actually be that far from the truth,” said Clive. “To be honest though with the higher wages at this level I think I’d be happy with just a foot!
“The figure of £1,000 is a very satisfying amount and although it’s a one-off donation there is always scope for resurrecting the donation of CDs, DVDs and video games for sale to on-line companies. It’s a pain-free way of making money for the club, especially now that many of us are storing our music in other formats.”
The iDons stall used to be a regular feature before matches but larger crowds have meant that its activity has recently been limited to a few external events. Despite this, the determination was there to amass a substantial total before handing over the cheque.
Clive would like to thank all those supporters who both bought and donated stock as well as those who offered assistance to run the stall itself.
