“I have been very pleased with it so far this season,” said Shaun. “Our players are all comfortable on the ball and they are learning a bit more tactically about how we want them to play. This competition is a good idea because category three clubs like us are only playing friendly matches. I am expecting it to be very tough tomorrow. We are a bit in the dark as regards preparation because though QPR have played several development games recently, they have not had the same team twice. QPR were in the Premier League last season though so I think they will have good squad players.

“We have been preparing for this in a similar way to every game, but this is a bit different because it is a competitive match. I want us to be positive because we have played against tough opposition recently. We had a very good result against Gillingham in the last round and then also played them in a friendly when they had more senior players out. Last week we also played a Cambridge side with a lot of senior experience. Results wise we did not get what we wanted, but from a learning point of view these matches were invaluable.”

AFC Wimbledon Under-21s earned an impressive 2-1 win against the Gills in the last round and the match against QPR is for a place in the third qualifying round of the competition.
