My Dons Day Three

20 November 2013

A member of the Crazy Gang, Barry the Penguin and Bassey's beer

Saturday’s memorable win against Portsmouth provided an extra special edge to our request for your matchday photographs and the gallery above certainly sums up what being an AFC Wimbledon supporter is all about.

A day that will live long in the memory banks ends with first-teach coach Simon Bassey celebrating a great 4-0 win with a well-earned beer just before midnight! Our office administrator Chris Atkinson has arranged a selection of your Twitter submissions into a timeline of the day. It starts with a link to the Wimbledon Crazy Gang, before featuring supporters young and old enjoying the matchday experience and a penguin called Barry taking centre stage at the Man of the Match celebrations!

The timeline of Dons Day Three is published below and an alternative offering with more of your photographs will be published in the Dagenham & Redbridge programme.

10.27: Before leaving for the Cherry Red Records Stadium, Ollie Lewis spots his photo from a previous Wimbledon v Portsmouth match when he was the mascot. Ollie, who is now bald, wonders if it was him or Nigel Winterburn who had the worst hair at the time!

11.02: Neil Taylor has taken his son to our Saturday Football Club at Wimbledon Park. Over 100 children are present so it’s a busy morning for the AFC Wimbledon Community Scheme coaches.

12.30: Kitman Robin Bedford is in early to prepare for the big match. This is the first home match when the club are required to use winter yellow balls so he spends some time ensuring they are the correct pressure.

13.10: Alex Mitchell is getting the train to the match today and spotting the massive advert of Neal Ardley through the window at Wimbledon station, he believes it’s worth a quick snap.

13.40: Steve Nelson has brought his wife to her first ever AFC Wimbledon match. He captures her in the bar before the match.

14.15: Matt Burton is in the ground early to get his spot in the Your Golf Travel terrace. Loan signing Kaid Mohamed is due to make his debut and Matt snaps Kaid starting his warm up.

14.28: It’s Claire Aldridge’s birthday outing. Helen Coles takes a group photo in the EcoHouse End.

14.40: Kevin and Luke Pearce are season ticket holders in our family section. As a Junior Dons member, young Luke has had his name printed in the programme for his birthday, which he has just spotted.

14.50: @Anukt has prime seats in the Nonsghim Stand and takes a quick ‘selfie’ before the game gets underway.

15.54: Sarah Navoy’s family cannot make it to the game today, but they are supporting the team from afar.

16.42: @Deafjonty captures the players celebrating after Sammy Moore’s excellent goal to make it 3-0.

17.20: This is a penguin called Barry on the stage before the Man of the Match presentations. There’s probably a story behind this……..

17.45: Phil ‘Donut’ West and Steve Day are massive Wimbledon supporters and can’t hide their joy at the 4-0 victory when Suzanne Dexter photo’s them in the bar after the game.

18.05: Daniel Patching is 28 today and to top a successful birthday outing off he meets Dons captain Alan Bennett in the car park and has his photograph taken with our favourite Irish defender.

23.59: Simon Bassey has had a long, but successful day. He relaxes by having a well-earned isotonic sports beer.
